Free Puppies

Chastity sighed as she wandered about.  Her sister had told her to stay at home, but she had also said that they couldn't keep all four of her rescued puppies.  At best she could only keep one and so Chastity decided that she had best go out and find homes for the little guys with nice people.  Unfortunately so far no one had accepted her offer of a free puppy despite the adorable brown faces with floppy ears peeking out of the box.

She glanced around again and then at the sky.  It was getting a bit late.  If she didn't head back soon Patience was going to freak out when she arrived to find their place empty, but she didn't want to give up before she found the little ones a place to live.  And so she walked up to another random stranger and tugged on their sleeve to get their attention.

"Would you like a puppy?" She said, holding up the box of squirming puppies.  "They're free to a good home."  She smiled brightly.  "They make really good friends you know."

The sun was bright that day and the young woman had to be thankful for the shade provided by a lacy white sun hat that adorned her head. The color matched perfectly the pale rose colored sun dress she was wearing and her dainty white shoes. All were items she'd been given by one person or another, however she considered none of them hers. They were on loan and should their owners but speak a word they would be immediately returned. After all; she had the clothing formed of her own body if nothing else.

At the moment, the woman called Charity had been heading to the market to see what was available. The sound of a familiar voice and an unusual cry stopped her short though and the pale skinned woman soon found herself searching with violet eyes for the source of the sound, traipsing along as her auburn red hair hung in a simple braid over her shoulder.

"Oh my. I didn't expect to see you out and about!" She called out as soon as she came within the girl's line of sight. "So does that mean it's true then? The project has really been abandoned?" There was a pause as she approached the box and examined the contents.

"Those....those aren't chimera puppies are they Chastity?"

Two wide violet eyes gazed up at Charity out of the childish face, confusion written over her features. "Who..?" Chastity's brow furrowed before recognition stole over her features and she nearly dropped the box. "Charity! You're alive!" She grinned broadly. "Patience is going to be so happy!"

It had been quite a while since she had seen her other big sister. She really hadn't recognized her. After all she had assumed Charity was dead.

A breeze blew by the wind toying with the skirt of her little white sundress as she shrugged. "I don't know. The project was still running when we left. And I don't think they are?" She glanced down at the puppies as they yipped happily. "I just found them in a box by the side of the road and I couldn't leave them there. Look at how sweet they are."

"Oh yeah...Patience" Charity considered that for a moment, though she was soon distracted by Chastity's excitement at her living. "What you guys really thought I was dead?" she asked as she squatted down to rub some puppy ears and heads "Chastity we can't die as easily as other people. You should know that" She smiled as the little squirming balls of fluff wriggled under her touch. Animals always reacted the same way to them, with instinctual fear. But she couldn't help but love them anyway.

"They are very sweet. I'm sure they'll find homes right away!"

"Yeah we did. That's what they said in all the files and there wasn't any way to prove otherwise." She nodded solemnly. "They said that they destroyed you. It is possible even if it is difficult. So what were we to think. They threatened the same for Patience because they got afraid of her."

One of the puppies seemed to sense the downward turn of her mood and shifted to face her licking her cheek and looking at her with big soulful eyes that seemed to beg for a smile. It seemed at least this one didn't have any problem with their oddness... She couldn't help but smile back and give the little one a pet. Maybe she'd keep that one.

"But I've been trying aaaaaaaaalllll day." Chastity whined slightly. "I haven't managed to get anyone to give them a home at all and they need one."

Listening to the girl talk brought a smile to Charities face. She had to admit that freedom could be pretty lonely without her siblings. "Well, I suppose we never could trust those people with the truth right?" As a small breeze kicked up she looked up and down the street. "There are barely any people here."

Charity reached out and picked the box up. "We should probably be in a more public area where more people will see them. Where is Patience anyway?" She mused as she began walking off with the box.

She sighed. "I guess so, but it's a good thing this time." A small smile appeared on her face she looked up and down the street mirroring Charity's check a moment before. "Yeah... I thought there would be more."

Chastity stood and stretched. "That sounds like a good idea. um... well..." She shifted nervously, glancing around as if the aforementioned sister might appear at the sound of her name despite prior evidence disproving such a theory. "Patience ... um... went out for a break and then get some food and told me to stay because I picked up the puppies but she said that the needed homes and I thought it would be fast so I headed out to find them homes." She glanced down at the ground. "I was going to tell her when she got back because I'll be home by then... probably."
